Reward Yourself There is a saying that goes, “honor is given where honor is due”. Well, it may not exactly go like that, but I’m sure you get where I’m going. Many people fall out of their walking programs because they fail reward themselves for their efforts! For example, how many of you would work long hard labor hours at a job for one month just to get a “thanks” from your boss? Not many I hope. Well, believe it or not, that’s how many people treat their bodies when starting any exercise programs. They take their bodies through such physical torture for about a month or so to where they can’t take it any more because they are not “treating” themselves for the hard work they have accomplished. Now, I’m sure some would say that rewarding yourself for tough exercises is very understandable for tough exercises, but why should any rewards be given for walking? Ok, think about it. Even if you walked for 10 minutes, that’s a whole lot better than ten minutes sitting watching TV, talking on the phone or playing video games. Within those ten minutes, you exercised your body’s muscular, cardiovascular, respiratory, skeletal, and nervous systems all at once- why shouldn’t you deserve something in return! The secret to giving yourself a reward is to do it at the right time. You don’t want to do it too early to spoil yourself and you don’t want to do it too late where you already chose to quit and don’t want it anymore. The best time to reward yourself is after you have achieved a reasonable goal that you set for yourself. As a matter of fact, by keeping track, you can write down your rewards inside your walking log on certain dates. However, it is very important that you remember to only give yourself a reward after you completed ALL of your daily walking that you planned to do- NO CHEATING! There are a number of ways that you can reward yourself for your walking efforts, here are a few: · Food treats try to keep it healthy |
