What were some of the major topics of the experience?

 

 


Our inquiry experience took place in the Human Performance Laboratory of the WVU Health Sciences South Complex. The instructors for the session were Danny Bonner, assistant professor of Exercise Physiology, and Emily Spangler and Amy Sindler, both doctoral students in the exercise phys. program.
The teacher participants in our group were Shawn Dilly of Tucker County High School, James Poling of Philip Barbour High School and WVU graduate assistant Jenny Akins-Moffatt.


 

Distinguishing between physical fitness and physical activity

Identifying basic wave patterns of electrocardiogram and what they signify

Utilizing the protocol for graded exercise test using a bicycle or treadmill

Defining, categorizing, and calculating body mass index (BMI).

Observe and demonstrate proper techniques of measuring skinfolds

Perform techniques for analyzing body composition including the BOD-POD body composition analyzer,skin fold, and bioelectrical impedence test.

Walking the Rockport Walk Test

Using the YMCA Bicycle Test to examine cardiovascular fitness
