HSTA ANATOMY CAMP WEEK 1:
DREAMWEAVING THE ANATOMY EXPERIENCE
![]() |
This week, HSTA students in the eleventh grade are attending an Anatomy camp at WVU. In the pictures above, students are working on an opening activity. This activity included finding the names of parts of the heart as well as f inding the relationship between the heart, the lungs, and cholesterol. During the rest of the camp, students will be able to test their stress level, solve a case study, and present their case study. Also, the students will compare the results of their stress test to the results of the teachers' test. They will be comparing these results on graphing calculators which were presented to them at the beginning of the camp.

In the Power Lab, students rode exercise bikes for three minutes. Every thirty seconds, their heart rate was recorded. The students were able to look at their results in the same manner a doctor would. The results they received would demonstrate how their heart handles stress. |

During Case Studies, students were given mock medical situations. In the time that the students work on the situations, they will have guest speakers to answer some of their questions and time to research the situations on the Internet. Students construct and provide PowerPoint presentations of these case studies at the end of the week. These PowerPoint presentations can be viewed through the above Case Studies site (click on group photos) or directly here: Asthma, Black Lung, and Coronary Artery Disease. |

For the Physical Anatomy part of the week, students were permitted to go into the Gross Anatomy lab. This was so that they could view the cadavers that the medical students have worked on during the past year. The students also were allowed to disect pig hearts and be able to look at the hearts from the inside. |
