HSTA Senior Camp Mentor Position Application

Senior Camp will be at WVU on July 1- July 20, 2018

The Health Science & Technology Academy (HSTA) is looking for Summer Mentors to guide West Virginia high school junior and senior students in their pursuit of higher education.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
• Supervise students to and from academic courses and provide assistance in the classroom when requested.
• Assist and tutor students while students are completing homework.
• Mentors will also conduct nightly study halls focusing on statistics homework.
• Offer guidance on college life, time management, and study skills.
• Interact with students and attend social activities and events sponsored by HSTA.
• Promote an atmosphere conducive to balancing both academics and social activities.
• Mentors must live on campus during entire camp (June 30-July 27)
• Be on duty as assigned by the head mentor.
• Other duties as assigned.

DATES: Mandatory Training: June 30th
Camp: July 1st through July 27th

SALARY: Stipend ($2600) plus Room (lodging) and Board (meal plan).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• 2 years Undergraduate Experience at WVU or another University
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience/ability to relate to a diverse high school population
• Evidence of success in college course work in science, math and/or writing
• 2.5 GPA minimum for college
• Ability to pass criminal/child abuse clearances

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience supervising and working with high school youth
• Experience tutoring math, science and writing
• Experience working with disadvantaged youth
• Prior participation in HSTA or similar program
• Experience working as a team member/leader
• Previous classwork in a statistics based course
