Materials: chopstix, sushi (ginger, wasabi, soy) enough for 2 pieces each, slices of mango, slices of papaya, jicama, small knife, bowls, napkins
2. Have small groups of students sit in a circle.
3. Explain to students about food and chopstix: They will be feeding each other one of these food items, so they need to memorize a polite word to say with each food item. Then show each food item to your audience, say the matching word, and have them repeat the word.
4. Within each circle, have students designate themselves as
one of the foods. Instead of numbering off as 1, 2, 3, or 4, have students say
- Sushi, Mango, Papaya, Jicama - in this order.
5. Tell students they will be picking up each food item with a chopstix, so
they need to learn how to use them. Teach them.
6. Explain how to play the game:
Similar to musical chairs, when the music begins they will get up and dance.
Leader will take away one chair.
When music stops, there will be one person without chair
That person comes up, picks up their designated food with chopstix, and feeds it to a person of their choice, saying the appropriate polite word. That person is allowed to stay in the game and continue playing/eating.
Let the music begin again and again and again!
