HSTA Lifestyles Project
Ethics Training

 

All HSTA teachers and students who act as investigators for Lifestyles Project must be trained in Ethics. HSTA Teachers must complete the on-line training below. Once completed, you can either have your students complete the on-line training OR train students yourself.

1. Go to web site: http://www.wvu.edu/~rc/add_name.htm


2. Fill in the required information as requested:


First Name, Preferred Name, Last Name: put your name
e-mail: put your e-mail
Dept and College: Leave blank
Institution, if not WVU: put HSTA
Non-WVU Registrants: put YES
Name of faculty Collaborator: put Jenny Bardwell
Course to be added: put NO
Course Name: click Human Participants Protection Training
Hit Submit


3. You will get an e-mail with a username and password and instructions for the Ethics Training. Follow the website provided and complete the training. You must pass a test to get certification.


4. Use the guide below to help you focus on the most important concepts that will be tested.


History: Make note of Belmont Report, Autonomy, Beneficence, and Justice

Basics: Make note of descriptions of the human participants, their privacy/confidentiality, and the responsibilities of the researcher.

Informed Consent: Make note of the rules of informed consent, and what the participant should understand it.


IRB Review: Make note of what types of research and participants are required for IRB review.

Ongoing Protections: Make note of Adverse events and Data / Safety Monitoring Board.

International Research: Make note of how informed consent can be conducted in foreign countries to adjust to the culture involved.

 

5. A form must be signed by the HSTA teachers and all students who are conducting a Human Subjects project. Then send form to Jenny Bardwell at the address below.
