The concept map is a versatile tool in the field of education. It can be used as a constructivist learning tool to develop understandings and assess growth in knowledge over time. It is a wonderful communication tool, and as such, can be employed to "show what I know" and "teach others." Current technology, such as Inspiration® software, can support these applications of the concept map.
In HSTA, teachers are employing the concept map in a variety of ways. Currently, some teachers are including them in their Electronic Teacher Portfolios. Some HSTA teachers and students are having fun creating them while learning: It Matters!. Some HSTA students also are utilizing them for their science projects.
