Water Cycle Review

Developed by: Elise Adkins, Logan High School Science Teacher

Subject/Grade: Science 10

WV IGOs:

10.10 – Identify, analyze, and infer using patterns and relationships in data

10.18 – Properly and safely manipulate equipment, materials, chemicals,

organisms and models

10.30 – Trace matter and energy flow through the respiration processes

of glycolysis, the Krebs cycle, and electron transport system

10.71 – Probe characteristics of the atmosphere

10.77 – Explore and explain the energy relationships in earth science

Science Background

  • View a concept map that shows the science underlying this lesson. If you have Inspiration software, you can download and view the map AND text information embedded in the map.
  •

    Overview

  • This activity is used at the introduction of the weather unit. It is intended as a quick review of the water cycle and to provide additional information that the students may not have previously covered.
  •

    Time Required

    1 class period

    Materials:

Beading cord elastic cut to fit each student’s wrist

6 x 9 mm pony beads: yellow, clear, white, blue, black, brown, green, tan

    Activity:

  • Students make a water cycle bracelet using each colored bead to represent a phase in the water cycle. The bracelet is to be used to help the students remember what occurs in each stage.
  •

    Follow up activities:

  • Students construct their own concept map of the water cycle, determine and chart daily the dew point temperature and relative humidity, and form a cloud in a bottle with and without condensation nuclei.
