CI 694E: Plant Science Inquiry and Experimental Design

About This Course

Teacher Eligibiliy & Funding. This course is available only to teachers participating in the Health Sciences and Technology Academy (HSTA) and is part of a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) project as well as a National Institutes of Health Science Education Partnership Award (NIH SEPA). In order to register for the course, you must already be accepted as a WVU graduate student OR be eligible for the "one time only" alternative that allows non-WVU students to take a graduate course one time with the permission of the Instructor. Currently, the tuition is waived but enrolled teachers still pay fees. See "Registration" for more details.

Content Emphasis:.A special emphasis of the course is to advance teachers' understandings of how to utilize plant science content for secondary student science and math enrichment. This semester's offering will place an emphasis on experimental design so as to gather data for statistical analyses using Excel, as well as applying inquiry-based methodologies that really "work" in classroom settings. It is intended to enrich HSTA Teachers' knowledge, skills, and ideas in providing HSTA club programming as well as regular classroom instruction for secondary level students.
