Meet the
Team

Marty Burke - science teacher

John Lewis - science teacher

The muscle tissue study team demonstrated different types of muscle tissues:
Skeletal Muscle, Cardiac Muscle, Smooth Muscle.

Skeletal
Muscle

This model demonstrates the structure of a skeletal muscle, the biceps (meaning two parts).

The students constructed a model of how skeletal muscle moves the skeleton during contraction.

The students constructed a model of how skeletal muscle moves the skeleton during contraction.
The diagram illustrates skeletal muscles on the posterior aspect of the thigh, biceps femoris, semimembranosous, and semitendinosis.

Cardiac
Muscle

Cardiac muscle is found only in the walls of the heart. The students used this heart model to discuss circulation of blood through the heart.

Smooth
Muscle

The students made a model of the stomach as the wall contains smooth muscle. The microscopic anatomy of smooth muscle differs from skeletal muscle as slower contraction is needed in the gut wall.
