There are 13 weeks of sequential class sessions in this
outline, beginning with the week of Sept 5-9 and ending
the week of Dec 5-9. The week of Thanksgiving--November
21-25--is omitted from this class session outine and we
do not have a final exam the week of Dec 12-17. For each
week of "Class Session," there in "in-class
activities" (class contact time, listed in column 2
below) and "out-of-class" activities (listed in
column 3 below).
The cumulative contact time required for all class sessions
in a 3 credit course is 45 contact hours (this is 37.5 actual
hours if you remove "break" time). The second
column of the following outline lists the main Activities
that we will complete each week for the "contact time."
Some of this contact time is completed through attending
the Fall workshop and conducting HSTA club meetings. The
remainder is completed through initiating, participating,
and monitoring threaded discussions in the VISTA Discussion
folders (http://vista.wvu.edu:8080).
Therefore, please study thoroughly the material about "What
Constitutes Threaded Discussions" as well as the
rubric
for threaded discussions. We will begin the threaded discussions
the week of Oct 2-7.
For each 1 hour of "contact time," at least 2
hours of "out of class" reading/study/writing
etc are expected in a graduate class. The third column
lists the out-of-class readings and other assignments that
are to be completed outside of the class contact
time. The reading assignments listed are necessary background
and preparation for the next week of "contact
time" (especially the discussion folder postings).
Refer to the "Readings" section in the Syllabus
for the URL link to on-line assigned readings, and to your
text Urban Sprawl and Public Health for readings assigned
therein. Other assignments listed also are to be completed/due
by the next class session unless stated otherwise.
Please check your email at least twice a week and respond
to the instructor if requested.
Immediately below and after each class session are a set
of links that provide access to any of the class sessions.
