This is a collaborative research endeavor by faculty in the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center, College of Human Resources and Education , and School of Physical Education at West Virginia University (WVU) as well as HSTA teachers and high school students in several West Virginia Communities. The project is supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and is part of the Center for Healthy Communities (CHC), administered out of the Prevention Research Center at WVU.
The mission of the CHC is to reduce the statewide prevalence of overweight/obesity and develop culturally-sensitive intervention models that can be transferred to other communities in the Appalachian region and nationwide. This CDC-supported HSTA thrust is stimulating research by HSTA clubs on increasing physical activity opportunities/levels in West Virginia communities. It also is providing learning experiences for HSTA teachers and students on human energy balance.
This project has been completed but curriculum resources are still available below.
