Support: Mentor Teacher

A teacher who has been involved with the HSTA program for a few years can become a mentor for a new HSTA teacher and be paid a consultant's stipend. This entails advising, as well as modeling, on how to conduct a HSTA club. Roles include the following:

  • Mentor helps to plan a club meeting in the new teachers' school
  • Mentor attends the first and at least one follow-up club meeting
  • Mentor is available for questions and support on a regular basis via e-mail

The mentor-mentoree relationship is effective for the entire HSTA club year, i.e., September through May. The mentor and mentoree each are to submit a brief report (Appendix A) to their FSC at the end of the HSTA club year no later than June 15. In that report, both are to summarize what s/he did (relative to a. - c. above), and make any recommendations about revising those responsibilities for future mentors/mentorees. The Field Site Coordinator is to submit these reports to the Joint Governing Board (JGB) Personnel sub-committee for review at the July JGB meeting.
