Project Resources

While the most obvious project resources are the library and the internet, HSTA teachers and students should also access the HSTA Expert list. The experts on this list have been previously contacted and are interested and willing to help HSTA teachers and students. If they cannot supply the needed assistance, whether it is an answer to a question or lending equipment, they can most likely direct you to another person who can. In addition to these experts, the curriculum coordinators are always available to help teachers and students for a wide variety of tasks. Oftentimes, it makes sense to contact them for ideas and direction to additional resources. Your local FSC can help you with other resources in our area.

Local Federal Government agencies, such as NIOSH (National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health), EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), and NASA, have many resources available to the public free of cost and can usually speak at club meetings. The media, local industries, and service organizations may also be helpful. Along with their time, many of these will donate money and/or supplies. Fast food restaurants are an excellent source of straws and napkins.

Here are 2 books that can be ordered through HSTA and supplied to teachers. Please ask your FSC for copies, if you have not received either one:

  • Students and Research, Practical Strategies for Science Classrooms and Competitions by Julia Cothron, Giese, and Rezba, Kendall/ Hunt, 1993.

  • Invitation to Inquiry by Tik L. Liem
