Purpose:
This activity challenges students to examine some history behind the fundamental concepts in genetics, providing insight into the big picture of how excess UV radiation can alter life forms.Teachers found that this activity drew comments from some students who normally were non participatory.
Materials:
chalkboard, flip chart, poster paper, overhead projectorTo save paper, you may want to laminate the Milestone Cards and Evidence Cards so that you can reuse them.
8 sets of Milestones in Understanding Genetics,
cut apart (1 set per team)1 overhead transparency of Historic Sequence of Milestones,
or 1 copy for each student1 copy of Evidence Cards corresponding to a particular milestone
for each team; there will be a different set of cards for each team.
