Activity 4: Seeing the Invisible

Purpose:

Students conduct simple investigations to observe differences in spectra of light, focusing on the longer wavelengths (infrared radiation) and shorter wavelengths (ultraviolet light). Students see evidence of the existence of radiation energy above and below the visible spectrum.

Materials:

prism, light source, 3 weather thermometers, pencil, paper, blueprint paper, 1 qt. ammonia, flat pan, prism, light source

Time Frame:

50 minutes
