The Question:
What are the types of actions and what impact does each action have on a community?
Background Information.
The four citizenship action categories included in this lesson represent a preferred method of classifying citizenship actions. Though civil disobedience is often considered a method of action, it is not included here because the authors believe it is inappropriate to encourage students to engage in this type of action without a detailed discussion of the severe ramifications which may result.Students may suggest that development of quick technological fixes is appropriate forms of action. The focus of this lesson is on citizenship actions, which are within the immediate realm of students at this level of development. Students might be encouraged to discuss political and consumer actions that would encourage the development of new technologies.
