Exploration #4: Owning Your Own Electron Microscope

APPLICATION #2

MODELING CELLULAR PROCESSES

Once the students are familiar with cellular processes, have students model cell processes and design paradigms in modern inventions, for example:

Using Nanotechnology, design models of cellular molecules mimicking cellular processes.

Examples:

make microscopic silicon chips to produce insulin, dopamine, and other biochemicals

design devices to reconstruct bone tissue

mine cholesterol from the sides of arteries and open blood vessels that have blockages.

Radio broadcasting nanobots, which could be used in surgery.

Look for synergistic ideas from students that have unique perspectives on this topic.
