Exploration #2: Seti Move Over!

 STUDENT INFORMATION SHEET

Unusual events have been detected in a particular region of the sky. Some experts suspect life exists in this region. Your company (that is, you and two others) has been asked to submit plans and designs for an unmanned rocket, which will travel to a celestial body in order to ascertain if life exists. This area of the sky has two large planets with multiple moons. All geologic, atmospheric and chemical processes seen on earth are believed to exist there, albeit on a different scale, according to exogeologists. With a grant funded by the government, your team of space scientists must design a rocket payload/satellite that will answer these questions:

1. Does life exist in this region?

2. What parameters will be measured to determine the answer to number 1?

3. Why did your company choose those parameters?

4. How will the rocket be powered?

5. How will you protect the payload for a three year journey ?

This is a competitive endeavor, so you must be resourceful because the selection committee (i.e.teacher) will only accept one project for 100% funding. You must also answer to your stockholders and the quality of your ideas is crucial to future funding.

Use the ideas that were brainstormed above for resolving this issue. Be creative.

GOOD LUCK AS YOU JOIN IN THE MAKING OF HISTORY!
