Anatomy of the Heart

Day One

Hand out the coloring sheets from the Anatomy Coloring Book for the students to use as a visual guide. Plates 50,51,52

Guest Speaker:

50 minutes

The Guest Speaker can be a representative from the American Heart Association or a Cardiac Specialist.

If the speaker is from the American Heart Association, the students will be given information on how to raise awareness of Heart Disease as well as raise money for the American Heart Association. This can serve as a community service component for the class work and allow students to actually do something about heart disease in their area.

Activities:

• Students should take notes and ask questions concerning heart disease in their area.
• At the end of the session students can chose a geographical area to conduct research on to compare the rate of heart disease and how ethnic, racial, and geographical areas have different health problems.

  It is also a good idea to go over the vocabulary and pronunciations of the terms that label the heart.

• Students are assigned as homework the completion of the anatomy coloring sheets.

Day one covers Multicultural instruction, anatomy, writing skills, note taking and vocabulary.
