Club Projects

Barbour County is situated to the south and west of the higher elevations, and because of its' rolling hills the towns in this locale have a rich history from the past two hundred years, when they were considered more accessible than the mountainous areas.

Student-Designed Video to Increase Osteoporosis Awareness

Last year Barbour county students wrote a successful grant proposal to produce a video explaining Osteoporosis and how the public can incorporate preventive measures into their daily lives. This project has culminated with a substantial increase in the students' technological expertise through video editing, incorporating sound tracks, and graphic design. Once completed, the students will then take their video on the road in their local community. Look for this video to be portrayed at this website.

Radioactive Marigolds

A second project focused on how effectively plants absorb radioactive materials. Students first planted marigolds, then administered Sr-90 into the water that was then taken up by the roots. The observations showed no altered affect by this radiation. A succeeding experiment would be to gather seeds from the flower heads of exposed and control plants, then observe sequential generations.
