Research into tomato seeds that were flown into space. Ms. Marion provided us with Rutgers tomato seeds which had been flown into space on the NASA Space Shuttle. We grew them in the lab and when they got too big, we took them home and planted them in our yards. We got a variety of results. Some of us got more production from the controls and some of us got more tomatoes from the seeds which were flown into space. Scientifically, we should do the experiment again, but tomatoes are really too big to grow in a school setting. Ours were two feet tall when we took them home!
Bottle rockets. Jeremy and Jason made and tested bottle rockets as their first project in HSTA. From this they learned that Science is Fun! (They also got a jumpstart on the Summer Camp project in which students take a class called Fun with Science.)
