Using Excel for Simple Statistics and Graphing
Note: This guidance document is only for using Excel to do certain statistical procedures. For using Excel to enter and apply formulas, access the Help drag down menu and enter "formulas" in the search option. The help feature will then take you through 4 different ways to enter formulas. Use the Help menus for learning how to complete other applications, too.

To SORT columns of data or variables:
- Highlight all data.
- Click on "Data" in top tool bar.
- Then click on "Sort".
- Then choose which columns you want ascending or descending.
- Then click on "OK", and the columns will sort.
DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS:
when examining one variable alone, to find Central Tendency, Range, Min/Max
To find DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS:
- Click on blank cell.
- Click on Tools icon in top tool bar, then Data Analysis.
- Click on 'Descriptive Statistics' and hit 'ok'.
- Highlight your column of data for 'Input Range', check 'Summary Statistics', then 'ok'.
- You can rename the new worksheet or copy/paste where desired.
