ANATOMY

Anatomy is the study of the body structure through the method of dissection. We study the body structure so that we can understand how the body functions. We learn how the various structures in the body are interrelated and how they all work together in the body.

Anatomy can be divided in two studies gross anatomy and histology. In gross anatomy the whole organs are studied. Histology or microscopic anatomy, studies the structures of tissues and organs. It deals with objects that are too small and too pale to be seen with the naked eye. Very thin slices are used for observations and are usually cut with a very sharp razor or a precision instrument known as a microtome. The tissues are usually stained with dyes so that they can be more visible and be able to distinguish them.
